Gerry has been involved with grassroots football in the city for over 30 years.

And during that time, his involvement in the local game has seen him work for many years as a club coach at Trojans before progressing to the role of district coach.

Gerry adopts a ‘football for all’ policy in his coaching sessions, welcoming players of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to the Games Development Centre as part of the ‘Football4Peace’ programme.

In recent years Colhoun has been the main man at the Foyle Games Development Centre, which takes place at the old Clondermot school grounds and brings children from both sides of the community together to play football in a safe and friendly environment.

Gerry is up against Jimmy Short from Crumlin United and Albert Foundry’s John Moore for the award.

Commenting on the People’s Award, Pat Jennings, McDonald’s Head of Northern Ireland Football encouraged the people of Derry to get voting for Gerry.

“I’d encourage everyone in Derry to log on to the IrishFA website and vote for Gerry before the deadline passes.

“The People’s Award is one of the most popular categories in the McDonald’s Irish FA Community Awards and it’s fitting that the public get to have their say when choosing a winner.
