Colts to the ‘four’ to finallybeat new boys

The Colts started brightly with debut striker Jake Wilson forcing a save from the Ballycastle keeper in the third minute. The Colts went close again as another summer signing Aaron McLaughlin and Rhys Ewings tried their luck. The Colts were denied again when Brandon Warke was put through on goal but the Ballycastle keeper, who was having a great game, saved again.

After having had all the possession and created so many chances the inevitable happened when Ballycastle took the lead in their first venture into the Colts box as they were awarded a penalty after Keelin Gaile’s challenge in the area, Stephen Hanna almost saved the spot kick but Ballycastle took the lead.

Warke and Wilson went close to scoring before the Colts drew level. There seemed to be no danger when Cieran Woods picked the ball up on 24 minutes about 25 yards from goal but he unleashed a stunning strike with his left foot which gave the Ballycastle keeper no chance.

The second half continued in the same vein as Johnny Mairs headed over Ewings’ cross

Ballycastle took the lead again when a free kick took an unusual bounce and the ball went over keeper Stephen Hanna. The Colts were determined not to lose and came straight back with another fine equaliser. Dan Mairs played the ball over two Ballycastle players to Brandon Warke on the right of the box he struck the ball early with a powerful shot to make it 2-2.

The Colts had keeper Hanna to thank as he pulled off a great save, and it proved crucial as Mairs set up Wilson to score. The Colts finished the game strongly adding a fourth goal from Joe McClements who capped a good second half on the right of midfield to ensure all three points
