Comfortable win for the Seasiders against Ballynure OB

Portstewart welcomed Ballymena League side Ballynure Old Boys on Saturday.

New faces, Johnny Stewart and David McClements made their debut for the Seahawks in the tie.

Another new signing Macosquin teenager Robert Donnell was not available, but will be in the squad for this Saturday’s friendly.

The home side ran out comfortable 4-0 winners thanks to goals from Lee Forgrave, James Peden (2) and Johnny Stewart.

Portstewart boss Gary Taylor was pleased with the display.

But he insists his side will have a tougher test this Saturday against Premiership new boys Institute.

“It’s always good to get a match under your belt, you can train all you want, but match fitness is the key.

“It was disappointing that the IFA let us down with a referee, so we had to officiate ourselves which isn’t acceptable.

“We have signed Johnny Stewart from Ballymoney, he looks like a good prospect, he worked hard and got a goal. Craig Ramsey has also returned and he did well playing at right back.

“It was a good chance for the new boys to bed in and get to know each other.

“Saturday will be a tough test. Institute are a good footballing team and the game will be a good test for us.”

Portstewart have a number of pre season games coming up:

Tuesday July 29: Newton (away)

Friday, August 1: Coleraine (home)
