Competitive game but U10s lose out

THIS was a very competitive game with Dromore playing so well in the first half.

Right from the kick-off Dromore had Shankill on the back foot, Matthew Magill crossing in from the right and Philip hitting a great effort only to see it saved by the goalkeeper.

The next chance came from a cross by Philip with Alex’s shot just going wide.

The whole of the first half was spent with Shankill’s desperate defending as ball after ball went into their box.

The next chance came from a long throw from Nathan allowing Adam to use his neat footwork to go past three players and shot with his left foot just wide. Then Fynn played a great ball to Adam who slipped the ball through to Matthew Briggs who scored but he was just offside.

Next there was a corner that Shankill could not clear and Joel put in a great cross and Fynn’s shot at the back post was blocked by a defender and cleared away. The chances didn’t end there this time Adam had a great shot but the keeper did well to save it.

Then yet another corner which was cleared by a Shankill defender to the edge of the box, where Matthew Magill fired it back in with his left foot, just going wide.

The defenders had more work to do in the second half with the wind against Dromore. Karl came on to replace Alex. Shankill had more of a go at the game but with Euan and Morgan clearing their lines well there was no chance of Shankill scoring. Shankill got their first corner but Josh saved well. Dromore had two corners of their own and nearly scored from both. Then a free kick was taken by Karl from twenty yards out and Joel just failed to get on the end of it.

The three goals all can in the last ten minutes with Shankill scoring two breakaway goals. Soon Dromore replied with a goal of their own when Matthew Briggs was fouled.

From the free kick on the left side of the goal, Karl curled a lovely effort right into the right hand corner for his first goal for Dromore. Dromore tried to get the equaliser but time ran out.

This was a great effort from the team and all played well. Well done to Joel who won the George Best Man of the Match award.
