Comprehensive win for Reserves

THE Reserves stormed into the third round of the Mid Ulster Shield with a comprehensive win over first team opposition for the second successive round.

The Reserves nearly fell behind early on when a short back pass put the Cookstown centre forward through on goal only for the covering Ross Martin to make an excellent last ditch tackle to keep the scoreline level.

This turned out to be the first of a flurry of chances, however, they were all at the opposite end of the pitch. Craig Campbell opened the scoring when he found himself in space in the box and he slotted Cliffy Sands cross with a first time effort into the bottom corner. Almost straight from the restart, the fit again Keith McVitty was fouled on the left hand side. McVitty made his way into the box and got himself on the end of an excellent Mark Myles set-piece to double the Village’s lead.

Myles then went from provider to goal scorer, with an impressive long range effort to leave the Cookstown keeper no chance to make the score 3-0. McVitty then doubled his tally before Mucker McGrath and Shay McDonnell added their names to the scoresheet to give Seapatrick a 6-0 half-time lead.

Ten minutes into the second half, Shay McDonnell was given his marching orders by the referee for violent conduct. With Cookstown having the advantage of an extra man, they started to create a few chances.

A long range effort left Nathan Andrews in the Seapatrick goal with no chance to bring the score to 6-1.

This was soon 6-2 when the defence failed to clear their lines from a set piece and the ball was poked home. Cookstown then got a third when Mark Myles turned the ball into his own goal from a teasing cross. This was the end of the goals though and the Reserves finished out 6-3 winners. They face first team opposition again in round three in the form of Finn Harps, but not before returning to league action against Bourneview next week.
