Connolly the latest new face at Larne

A smart bit of business saw Davy McAlinden sign former team-mate John Connolly on Monday (May 26), thus making it four more players added to the Larne squad in the last seven days. The Inver Park boss delighted to also have procured the services of Ross Davison, Thomas Robinson and Stuart McMullan.

Having already brought on board this quartet to join most of last season’s campaigners along with last week’s new trio - right-back Owen Thompson, midfielder Eoin Gillan and centre-forward Ciaran Murray, McAlinden is increasingly happy with his work to date.

And Connolly is unquestionably the biggest name to come to Inver Park for some time, the recruitment of the former Cliftonville and Glenavon goalkeeper a considerable coup for the ambitious manager.

“I am certainly very pleased to get John to come to Inver Park. He’s very experienced and a tried and trusted number one who was with Glenavon last season,” asserted McAlinden.

“He is in his 37th year but is still a very accomplished goalkeeper and there is absolutely no doubt that he has loads to offer yet. So it will be great to have him here next season.”

Left-back Davison departed Dundela towards the end of the season, but is best known for the great promise he had shown as a teenager with Glentoran.

McAlinden said former Ballymena player Robinson is seeking a new challenge, while McMullan comes highly recommended by his Coleraine contacts.

Added McAlinden: “Things are shaping up well for us. With all these new faces on board we will be able to enjoy the summer break.”
