Consistency is the key for skipper Ogilby

The 28-year-old was a colossus at the heart of the Bannsiders’ defence last term to take them to the brink of glory. But he believes they can go one step better this time out if they can become a bit more consistent.

“We’ve set the bar high after last season and our main aim is to try and better that,” he told Times Sport.

“We had a bit of a sour taste in our mouths with the way the season ended last term, but that has made us hungrier this time around and that can only benefit us.

“Top six is the minimum target for us. We believe that we are a top six team. We finished fourth last season and perhaps we maybe should have finished one or two places higher, but if we can bring a wee bit more consistency this season who knows what might happen.

“Everyone had to bed in quickly last year as we had so many new arrivals. Now we’ve another year’s experience under our belts and the disappointment we felt last season we can use them to our advantage this year and spur us on.”

Ogilby, who committed hid long term future to the club as he penned a new deal in the summer, says lifting a major honour with Coleraine would mean the world to him.

“This place deserves a bit of glory,” he said.

“The support we received from the fans last season was immense and they deserve a bit of success.

“For me as captain to be able to deliver on that would be fantastic. I don’t think we’re too far away.

“I’m just looking forward to getting started again.

“We’ve done a lot of work in pre-season and it’s nice to get back to playing competitive matches again with something at stake.”

It has been a quiet transfer window to date at The Showgrounds, but the skipper thinks that may be an advantage to the Bannsiders.

“There hasn’t been a lot of movement throughout the league,” said Ogilby.

“It has it’s advantages for us as we know our capabilities and we know what we can achieve.

“I’m sure the boss still has a few irons in the fire, but if we go with what we have I’m more than confident as we have a very good squad here.”
