Convincing win for five star Town U15s

Camlough were the visitors to Havelock Park and if truth be told the winning margin could have been even greater.

The local lads were on top from start to finish, but credit to Camlough for battling right to the end.

The Juniors took the lead after eight minutes when Jack Fullerton combined with Nathan Weir on the left before Jack’s shot crept in at the near post.

The locals were largely in the ascendancy but had to wait until a minute before the break to double their advantage.

Nathan Weir won possession wide on the left just inside the Camlough half and set off on a run which took him outside a defender before he hammered an angled drive into the roof of the net.

A quickfire double early in the second half ended any Camlough resistance.

Kyle Thompson burst through on the right to find the net from a narrow angle to make it 3-0 and shortly afterwards a goalmouth scramble ended with Jack McCartan adding the fourth.

The Camlough keeper then pulled off a magnificent double save to deny Luke Diamond and Chris Burns.

But there was nothing he could do about number five which arrived midway through the second half, Daire McCluskey rising highest to direct home a fine header from a pinpoint Joel Copes free-kick wide on the right.

The Juniors could have added to their tally in the closing stages but were prevented from doing so by a combination of lacklustre finishing and some poor choices in the final third.

At the other end Camlough were unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet as the Juniors lost their concentration in the dying minutes.

However, overall it was a job well done by the Juniors and a confidence-boosting victory before the tougher tests which lie ahead.
