Courts havecrucial win

AN eventful week of North West football began last Monday, with Maghera Strollers keeping their title hopes in tact with a 5-1 win over Dungiven with Gary O’Doherty’s hat-trick and Jerome McKenna and Conall McKee goals.

Ardmore the following night defeated Greysteel 5-1 in the Matt Morrison NW Junior Cup. Three players saw red, two from Ardmore and one Greysteel and Niall O’Connor’s strike wasn’t enough for Paddy Irvine’s team as the impressive Ardmore had Eamon Donnelly and Gareth Brown bagging two each and Barry Gormley rounding it off.

On Wednesday night, Greysteel Reserves kept up their good form with a 4-2 win Limavady Rugby Reserves. Anthony Boyle and Peter Irwin for Rugby and Steven McGinnis (2), Ferghal Duffy and Stefan ODonnell for Greysteel. On Thursday Ballykelly crucially edged out Claudy United 3-2 with James Canning twice on target for Claudy and Jamie Vinnicombe (2) and Paddy Logue for BK. Roe Rovers won the Limavady derby 3-2 against Drummond. Chris Moore and Sean Boyd for Drummond and Billy Doran, Brian Butcher and a Steven Kilburn winner for Rovers.

Drummond’s Scott McNoughter was carried off early on with knee ligament damage and everyone wishes his a very speedy recovery. Burndennett against BBOB finished scoreless.

On Friday night, Ardmore marched on to another final as they won 3-0 against Maghera in the City Cup. Gareth Brown with a double and Gary Collett the other.

On Saturday, Lincoln Courts kept their title battle with Maghera on track as they won 4-2 against Newbuildings United Reserves.

The usual scorers Gordon Murray, Kolyn Patterson, Gary Nutt and Mark Hamilton for Lincoln and Jason Hay and M Smith for United.

Roe Rovers defeated Sion 3-0 with Billy Doran grabbing two and Brian Butcher netted the other. Burndennett leapt off the bottom with a 4-2 home win over Greysteel. Paul McGettigan again the main man grabbing two and Darren Walsh also with a nice brace for ’Dennett.

In the First Division, Eglinton kept promotion alive with a 4-0 win over Donemana, Shaun Whorskey, Johnny Hume, James Boyd and Colm Derry all on the scoresheet.

Finally in the Second Division, Irish Street needed a point to win the title in their last game and they did it in style with a 4-0 win over Dungiven III. Stuart Moore grabbing two and Mark McKittrick and Steven Blair were the other goalscorers.
