Courts win in six goal thriller against Colts

Tullyally Colts...2

Lincoln Courts...4

PREMIER Division side Lincoln Courts got back to winning ways in the City Cup, at Waterside neighbours Tullyally Colts, on Saturday.

In fairness to the First Division side the score-line doesn’t really show how much good play they had during the cup tie and with a bit more luck could have caused an upset, with Courts’ experience and finishing really making the difference.

The visitors took the lead on 10 minutes when Mark Hamilton’s corner fell to Stephen Mooney and his centre was finished off by midfielder Gordon Murray, drilling the ball home.

Tullyally mounted some good attacks themselves, with their best effort being cleared off the by Scott Thomas. Courts doubled their advantage on 25 minutes.

Again Hamilton’s corner found youngster Jamie Garfield, who ran to the front post and finished with a fine header, to score his first goal on his full first team debut.

Steven Nicholl’s side added a third early in the second half this time instead of being the provider Hamilton latched onto a long ball before calmly lobbing the ball over the out-rushing Colts keeper.

To their credit Tullyally were by no means dead and buried and they pulled one back when their midfielder had a fantastic long range drive, which flew into the Courts nets.

Both sides had chances to score during a hectic and exciting period after Tullyally’s first goal, but it was Courts who did net a fourth goal when Kolyn Patterson’s super cross-field pass found Garfield and his left wing centre was superbly volleyed home by Hamilton.

Right at the death Tullyally added a second when their striker made no mistake from close range, after Courts failed to clear their lines properly.
