Cup canter for Clough

CLOUGH Rangers Athletic eased into the second round of the McReynolds Cup on Saturday with a comfortable 5-2 win over Ballycastle United.

With Ross Steele – a prolific goalscorer at this level – back on board, Alan Boyd's side will be hoping to finish the season strongly.

Clough Rangers Athletic 5, Ballycastle United 2: Clough took an early lead after James Andrew scored and three more goals scored by Ross Steele (2) and Nigel Boyd saw then four goals clear at half-time.

Steele then completed his hat-trick on the 62nd minute but Ballycastle came back with two good goals scored by Darren Morrison and Paddy Dallat on the 70th and 74th minutes.

Other result: Brantwood 4, Desertmartin 1.

O'GORMAN CUP ROUND ONE

Results: Portglenone 0, Rasharkin United 2; Dunloy 2, FC Ballynure 1.

JUNIOR DIVISION ONE

Glebe Rangers Reserves 2, Raceview Athletic 2: Glebe enjoyed the better of the attacking play in the first-half and went in at half-time leading by two goals scored by Warren Morrison on the 18th minute and Gareth Henry on the 24th minute.

As half-time was almost reached Dave Campbell converted a penalty for race view on the 45th minute to bring them back into the game.

Raceview then went on the attack in the second half but Glebe held them at bay until Denver McGavock scored a deserved equaliser on the 80th minute to give the teams a point each.

Grange Rangers II 2, Antrim Rovers 3: After a steady start to the game Ian Thompson scored on the 31st minute to put Grange in front.

Antrim came back to equalise through Craig Evans on the 52nd minute then went in front after Jonny Rogers scored on the 62nd minute.

Grange came back to equalise on the 74th minute with a good goal scored by Derek McCombe but then saw Craig Evans score his second goal on the 80th minute to win the game for the Rovers.

CANADA TROPHY ROUND TWO

Carniny Amateurs 3, Magherafelt Sky Blues Reserves 2: This was another good win for Carniny following on from the previous week and this time they had to come from behind after Tomas Beattie had fired the Sky Blues in front on the 20th minute.

Carniny got back level after Adam Whitehurst scored on the 28th minute then took the lead after Jordan Graham scored on the 35th minute.

As half-time approached Donal Walls equalised for the Sky Blues on the 42nd minute setting the game up for a good finish in the second half. Both teams went for the winning goal in the second half and it was Carniny who struck the telling blow when Steven O’Neil scored a cracking goal on the 72nd minute.
