Cup joy for City

Derry City progressed into the third round of FAI Ford Cup following a 2-0 win at First Division strugglers Cobh Ramblers.

After a lack lustre first half display by City it was the home side who had the best chance but Bobbi O’Donoghue somehow headed wide from close range.

The break through finally came on 54 minutes when Barry McNamee’s low drive from 20 yards fizzed past Ramblers goalkeeper Shane Hanahan.

The woodwork came to visitors rescue on a number of occasions with Aaron Barry and Rory Patterson both hitting the crossbar, but Patterson made no mistake ten minutes from time.

Michael Duffy’s pass found Patterson and he drilled the ball past Hanahan and ending the tie as a contest.
