Cup progress

After winning Reserve Division 3 last year Lurgan Town Reserves started the season with an O’Hara Cup match against Reserve Division 1 side Lower Maze Reserves.

Town got off to a great start and with five minutes gone Matt Johnston made the keeper scamper to save a 30 yard free kick destined for the top corner.

Andrew Houston’s pace was a problem to the defence and caused the keeper to bring him down for a penalty which he scored himself.

Having their first game together the Town defence of Kemp, Scorah, Hill and Maxwell were dealing with any attacks coming their way. Lower Maze drew level when their player cut in from the right to fire home.

The second half saw Town sitting back and allowing Maze into the game but Andy Johnston in goals wasn’t troubled. When Town got the ball down and played their passing football they caused problems. It was this that put Matt Johnston through one on one with the keeper twice and he scored both. Town worked hard as a team with U18s showing well on their debut. In particular Macaulay Maxwell had a great game.
