Cup successes for Ballyclare High School

After 22 minutess good work down the left put Ballyclare striker Gilmour through, and his shot across the box was put into his own net by the Glengomley defender.

The score remained 1-0 until half-time, and the second-half started with some end-to-end play. After a Ballyclare corner, Glengormley broke quickly and outnumbered the Ballyclare defenders to score the equaliser.

The turning point in the game came when Ballyclare were awarded a penalty for hand ball on the goal line. Scott Gault stepped up and hit a confident shot into the corner of the net. Within five minutes Gerard Dargan had made it 3-1 when he beat the keeper after good work on the left from his younger brother, Daniel.

Ballyclare High’s Under-13s edged past Glengormley High witha 1-0 win the East Antrim Year Nine Cup final.

Ballyclare’s Year Nines dominated possession for most of the first-half.

Excellent performances from midfielders Sam Ervine and Scott Wilson ensured Ballyclare were continuously breaking up play from their opponents.

On both wings Jamie McCalister and Logan Campbell played good passing football to create chances for Josh Cowan and Joel Moore. Cowan, in particular, had a number of good shots on goal, which were dealt with well by the Glengormley keeper.

Adam Glass made an excellent save when Glengormely’s Callum Smith rounded the defence and had a good shot on goal.

Glengormley’s game improved in the second-half and it was looking more likely that one goal would settle it. That goal eventually came for Ballyclare when the ball was crossed from the left by substitute Luca Hamill and on the second attempt substitute Conor Archer fired it into the roof of the net. 

Glengormley upped the pressure sending a central defender up front. The Ballyclare defence were starting to tire and Glengormley had their chances with free-kicks and good outfield play, however they were denied by Glass’s superb goalkeeping.
