Cup ties take centre stage this weekend

NEWTOWNE clinched the Premiership title on Saturday with a win over Greysteel, they have an incredible record of not dropping a single point in sixteen games, and there may be more silverware on the way.

Bottom club Draperstown Reserves drew with Roe Rovers while Drummond had few problems overcoming Claudy Rovers.

In the First Division high flying Sion had an easy win at City Colts, Caw dropped two valuable points in the Second Division while one of their main challengers Newbuildings Reserves lost at Donemana.

The City Cup takes centre stage this Saturday, while on Easter Monday, Lincoln Courts take on Greysteel, at Limavady Showgrounds (KO 2pm).

City Cup

Eglinton v City Colts

The home side will go into this one as favourites; this is their last chance for silverware although they have had a decent season. City Colts lost 5-1 to Sion last week so their confidence will be low.

Prediction: Eglinton.

BBOB v Dungiven Reserves

One of the few times this season when the Old Boys will be favourites to win a game; they have put a couple of decent performances recently and may end the season on a high. The visitors have struggled most of the season and they look likely to bow out.

Prediction: BBOB.

Greysteel v Maghera Strollers

The home side played reasonably well in their defeat by the league champions last week; always a difficult side to beat at home they will fancy their chances.

The Strollers narrowly defeated Ardmore in the last round, after their Irish Junior exploits they seem to have gone off the boil.

Prediction: Greysteel.

Burndennett v Roe Rovers

Two sides who like to play attacking football so there should be plenty of thrills; the home side have blown a bit hot and cold for a good part of the season and their home form hasn't been that impressive.

The Roesiders were disappointed with their draw last week and if they are to progress they will have to show a big improvement.

Prediction: Burndennett.

Caw v Tullyally Colts

Its Second Division against first here, the home side have their eyes firmly set on winning the second division title but they dropped two points last week that said they are having a tremendous season.

The Colts have done well in their division, they play attractive football and they will fancy their chances this one may need extra time.

Prediction: Caw.

Donemana v Newtowne

They don't come any tougher for the home side than this one;however cheered on by a big support they will relish the occasion, they are still in the hunt for promotion in what has been a good season.

The Limavady men are so far ahead of everyone that they may have to step up a grade next season, they have had a superb season and should book their place in the next round.

Prediction: Newtowne.

Lincoln Courts v Greysteel

The Waterside men who look likely to finish runners up in the Premier Division, will see this as a last chance to get some silverware this season.

Courts will be hoping Kolyn Patterson and Stephen Mooney can book their place in the final for them.

As for Greysteel, they are renowned cup specialists and although going into the tie as underdogs, they will certainly not be found out for want of effort.
