Institute manager Paul Kee is hoping to strengthen his squad ahead of this weekend’s re-arranged league game at Coagh United (KO 2pm).

Having already added experienced striker Stephen O’Flynn, Kee also signed defender Dean Curry from Newbuildings United, while his brother Stephen and possibly at least two others could also be on their way to the Riverside Stadium.

“Dean is only 19, he has a lot of development still to do, he’s a local boy who wanted to come back,” stated Kee.

“Him wanting to come back was important and because of that we wanted to have him.

“As for Stephen he has been good against us, he has got a new found confidence and when he was a younger player he kind of played within himself, but he’s a bit more mature.

“Playing at Newbuildings has done him the world of good and he has looked after himself, he’s a fit boy and he takes his game very serious, so he’s a type of player who we could be doing with in the run-in.

“We are going to be needing boys like that in certain games.”

The Curry brothers will be coming back to Drumahoe with a winning mentality having won numerous league titles and cup competitions during their time at Newbuildings, but Kee knows they are taking a big step up.

“Winning mentality is one thing, but playing in the Championship One every week is another thing, particularly when you’re playing against certain opponents, so it’s going to be a challenge for them, but they are good enough.

“They have shown in certain games that they can play at a good level, so we are going to have to hopefully rely on that coming out, which I’m confident it will because they are two young players who are hungry to do well for themselves and that’s what we need.”

Results in Championship One last weekend went in ’Stute’s favour with only leaders Bangor securing a victory, while fellow title contenders Dundela and Carrick Rangers both lost and Knockbreda drew.

However Kee believes it’s the leaders who have a massive advantage in the second half of the season.

The Seasiders are at home in an incredible ten times in their remaining 11 games, because their Clandeboye Road ground was getting worked at earlier in the season.

“For me Bangor hold all the cards, they have ten matches at home in their remaining 11 games on their 3G pitch, so they have a big advantage at the minute,” he added.

“But we have to make sure when we go there that we put in a good show on the 3G pitch, they have signed Thomas Wray and they’ll have signed another three or four players to try and go on and win the league.

“I’m sure they are now kicking themselves that they didn’t apply for a Premiership licence.

“Regardless of all that we have to look after ourselves and we have to win on Saturday at Coagh and then beat Larne at home the following week there’s no question about that, but if we do get six points from those two games it sets us up nicely and we need to be in amongst the pack as we face Bangor in February.”
