Dean is hoping for more goals

INSTITUTE’S Dean Carlyle admits securing the first piece of silverware of the season is a massive confidence boost for the rest of the season.

The winger netted twice in last week’s final win over Coleraine and he’s hoping those goals will be the first of many for him.

“It was a big performance by us against Coleraine and I was obviously delighted to have scored a few goals,” explained Carlyle.

“It’s something that all the coaches at the club has been telling me to get amongst the goals, so I was happy to score twice against Coleraine. I was really happy with my second goal, because I knew whenever I hit it that I had contacted with the ball well, so thankfully it went in.

“I had a chance at the Welders and I was disappointed that I didn’t score, then I was brought down for our equaliser in that game, so to score a couple against Coleraine is great.

“I felt we played very well against Coleraine definitely deserved to win the game and it’s great to win a cup this early in the season, but our main priority is the league and we have started to get on a bit of run and start moving up the table.

“We didn’t start off too well but over the last few weeks we have strung a few results together and are now in second place.”

The youngster also admits that his father Paul along with Paul Kee, Allan Blair and Brian Donaghy have been tormenting him to start getting more into the thick of things.

“My Dad and Keeso (Paul Kee) and all the coaching staff have been telling me to get myself involved more in the final third of the pitch and start scoring a few more goals, so hopefully I can now get on a wee run.

“Everyone is now really starting to get into what Keeso and all the coaching staff are telling us and things are going well at the moment. I also feel the new players like Paddy McLaughlin, Stephen Parkhouse, Thomas McBride, Dean Jarvis and Sean McCarron have also helped us.

“I’m really enjoying my football at the minute, I was out for a long time with an injury, so it has taken me a while to get back into the swing of things, but the more games I’m playing the more fitter and confident I’m feeling, so hopefully I can keep improving and play more games,” he concluded.
