Defeat for Reserves

RATHFRILAND Swifts Reserves travelled to Lurgan United aiming to extend their unbeaten league record.

The aim took a setback when Rathfriland were forced to 10 men following an injury in the first 5 minutes. In the following 10 minutes the visitors conceded two goals. Rathfriland came close to getting back into the game when a Niall Maginn free-kick struck the bar shortly before half time.

A long range effort saw the keeper parry into the path of Power, his reflex header was brilliantly saved by the Lurgan keeper.

The attack on the visitors’ goal continued for much of the second half without profit for Rathfriland.

The game turned nasty 10 minutes from time when Lurgan had three men sent off within a fove minute period.

This allowed the 10 men of Rathfriland to push for that evasive goal. It did eventually arrive, however it came too late into injury time when a cutting through ball allowed Maginn to slot his effort neatly under the advancing keeper. Rathfriland rushed to get the re-start but the final whistle sounded almost directly from the kick off.
