Defeat for ten-man Ports at Holm Park

Portstewart started the tie well with Sam Boylan going close, however on 22 minutes Chris Maxwell unleashed a fantastic strike which gave Madison no chance.

The Holm Park side were 2-0 ahead soon after when they were awarded a penalty after Taylor handled in the box.

The writing was on the wall for the Ports after this and there was no way back.

“It was just one of those days, “ Taylor told Times Sport.

“The ball bounced up and hit me, the referee awarded a penalty and sent me off.

“After that we battled with only ten men, we changed things to three at the back, but to be honest we didn’t really create much.”

Armagh started the second half just as they finished the first creating a number of chances.

Madison pulled off a superb double save from Cusack and then from Sheridan to keep the score at 2-0.

Reflecting on a mixed season, Taylor admitted: “We have a very young squad, but we are keen to develop these players. Joel Madison has been superb for us this year. He’s got a great presence in goal, and he talks to the back four, which makes a big difference.

“At the minute myself and Aaron [Forgrave] are already thinking about next season.

“We are hoping to get a few more experienced players in to help the younger boys along.

“We have picked up points against the top teams, but when it comes to playing the teams around us, I think our younger players just panic a bit.”

Portstewart entertain Chimney Corner this Saturday, the game has a 3pm kick off.
