Defences remain on top at Planters Parkas league clash ends in a scoreless draw

At a very blustery Planters Park both teams played out a scoreless draw in what was generally a poor game overall to watch.

The first half was quite feisty with some very aggressive challenges going on in midfield area but generally the referee

kept things under control and managed to keep all players on the pitch

The first real chance of the game came on 15 minutes when Glen Hand fired low and hard across the box but no Dollingstown striker was there to capitalise. Then on 34 minutes the once again impressive Neil Clydesdale let fly from 25 yards but his shot flew past the post.

This was followed a few minutes later when from a corner the ball landed at the feet of Colin Cunningham but from six yards out he put his shot past the far post resulting in both teams going in all square at half time.

Right at the start of the second half Newington’s Liam Beasley fired just wife from a free kick on the edge of the area.

On 55 minutes Newington had another chance but the winger fired over the bar following a great cross from the

right wing. This was quickly followed by a great chance for Dollingstown when Chris Kinsberry broke down the left on a one-on-one with the keeper but as he pulled the trigger the ball bobbled on the pitch and his effort went beyond the far post.

Neither team looked likely to break the deadlock although mid fielder Marty Hughes who had an excellent game forced the keeper to push his header over the bar .

The game then petered out to an unlikely scoreless draw but given the windy conditions then this was a fair result for both teams that are sitting comfortably around mid-table .
