Defender happy with league break

CENTRE-BACK David Ogilby believes this weekend's trip to Glenavon in the JJB Sports Irish Cup sixth round is a welcome break from the hectic schedule of the Carling Premiership.

The big Waterside man, who fired home his third and fourth goals of the season against Ballymena United last weekend, is hoping his goalscoring run can continue at Mourneview Park this Saturday.

"We know it's going to be a difficult game for us, to be honest it's always hard against any side Marty Quinn manages," he said.

"But we beat them only a few months ago at Mourneview, whenever Stephen Parkhouse scored and although he and a few other players may have gone, we are still confident of getting a positive result on Saturday.

"They had a big win themselves last week scoring in the last minute to beat Coleraine, so their confidence is going to be up, but we'll be going there looking for the win as it's a one off cup tie and you never know I might score another few goals," joked Ogilby.

The centre-back showed tremendous composure to net not just one but two penalties against United last weekend and he admits he was always confident of scoring from 12 yards.

"I have hit penalties before and I'm always confident that I'm going to score, so there was no doubt in my mind that I was going to score," he added.

"It was disappointing that we only got a point because we were leading at half-time because we were hoping to go on and get the three points, but whenever they scored and we go down to ten men you are glad to take a point.

"There was a lot of pressure at the end but we defended well as a team. It always obviously happens that the team with 11 men is going to bombard you at the end but we held out alright."

With a host of players having to leave the Riverside Stadium last month because of financial problems at 'Stute, the vice-captain believes the young players who are coming in can do a job and he was also happy to finally get a match at home.

"Joe McCready has done well definitely for us since coming into the side, he gives us something different with a bit of movement up front and I thought he could have scored one but unfortunately he didn't.

"It feels like a long time since we played at home, so it was good to get a match at Drumahoe because on the road the pressure is always on you."

With bottom club Lisburn Distillery losing 5-0 to title contenders Linfield, the point against the Braidmen moved 'Stute seven points clear of the Whites, but the Strathfoyle man like everyone in the Drumahoe dressing room isn't worried about other teams.

"Even though Distillery lost we are only looking at ourselves and we want to get a couple of wins on the board."
