‘Derby’ delight for United U-15s as they hit four against rivals

Ballymena United under 15s recorded a comprehensive derby victory over town rivals Northend at the weekend scoring four goals in the process.

The under 13s made the long journey to Strabane and hit eight in yet another eye-catching performance.

The 12s racked up another win in Lisburn to continue their 100% start to the season while there were two more disappointing defeats for the under 14s,the 11s having no game this week.

The 13s and 14s both face Carniny in town derbies this weekend.

UNDER-12

Windmill 2, BUYA 9: The 12s started off slowly but once they found their feet United got a hold of the game and went three up. But Windmill clawed their way back to make it 3-2.

The Braid boys dominated the second half, windmill had a few chances but United were overall stronger and were able to score another 6 goals to make it 9-2 at the end.

UNDER-13

Sion Swifts 1, BUYA 8: After applying early pressure it only seemed like a matter of time before the evitable, but Ballymena were caught with a sucker punch of a break away by Sion Mills, who squared a ball along the edge of the box and fired home.

Ballymena responded on 15 minutes when, from a good delivery across the box, Eoin Robinson side footed sweetly into the net past the stranded keeper.

On 24 minutes Ballymena took the lead, when Scott Marcus took on 3 players on the edge of the box, laid the ball off to Sean McKay who blasted home.

The second half began where the first had finished off, Ballymena took control and began forcing pressure and playing good football, passing the ball well and crisply, forcing the pace of the game. On 32 minutes, Aiden Gillen directed a deft header home from a corner.

Sean McKay screamed another goal home on 42 minutes, Gillen delivered a pacey cross which Hemphill held and directed the pass on the edge of the box for McKay to hammer home.

Just 4 minutes later Robbie McGaughey scored a good solo effort, when his pace left the defence standing and he finished well with a low drive. Danny Louw got in on the scoring action with a terrific 20 yard dipping shot that beat the keeper.

Sean McKay finished the scoring with a curling shot from just inside the box into the top corner of the net.

UNDER-15

Northend United 1, BUYA 4: This result was based around a well organised midfield four where Mucka, Armstrong, Dunn and Stockman physically took hold of the game creating chances for the front men.

Carson fired in a great free kick to send the Skies ahead before Jack Walshe showed his class, being sent clear twice and rounding the keeper on both occasions to finish brilliantly.

United continued to press and scored their fourth through Calvin Purse firing home from 12 yards before Northend scored from a free kick.

UNDER-16

Sion Swifts 1, Ballymena United 1: Ballymena travelled to Strabane to play Sion Swifts in the league and came home with a 1-1 draw in a highly frustrating game.

After a scoreless first half, Ballymena finally did break the dead lock when Joel Godfrey slipped the ball through to Daniel Black who gave the keeper no chance.

In the sevenh minute of injury time Sion equalised when their initial shot came back off the crossbar and their player reacted quickest to score.
