Derby to be held at the Showgrounds on Friday

THE weather decimated the North West City Cup first round on Saturday with just five ties beating the elements. Premier Division side Lincoln Courts were made to fight all the way before defeating First Division Tullyally. Ardmore had few problems seeing off Eglinton while Burnfoot hit the net six times against Churchill United.

Douglas Bridge ended Glendermott’s interest in the competition and Donemana comfortably saw off the challenge of Draperstown Reserves.

The postponed games from last week will take place this Saturday while the Quarter Finals of the Matt Morrison Junior Cup are also down for decision.

Newtowne v Lincoln Courts

This game will be played on Friday night under lights at Limavady Showgrounds (KO 7.30pm), which should ensure a big turn out.

The home side are very much in the hunt for the remaining three trophies and are odds on to win at least one of them.

The Courts after a couple of poor performances got things back on track last week but they know they will have to improve on that performance if they are to see off the Roesiders, they have played each other twice this season with the score 1-1.

Prediction: Newtowne.

Tullyally v Maghera Reds

The visitors had a good win over neighbours Maghera Strollers in the last round so they are obviously a useful side, they play in the competitive Coleraine league and are having a decent season.

Tullyally although losing to Lincoln Courts in the City Cup last week still produced some good football, they will see this as a chance to claim a big scalp, this may need extra time.

Prediction: Tullyally Colts.

Portstewart Olympic v City Colts

This is a big challenge for the Colts, however after knocking BBOB out in the previous round they will have no fear, they are on a good run of results and confidence is high.

The Seasiders are a bit of an unknown quantity however reports suggest that with home advantage they will be very hard to beat, another close game looks likely with the home side getting the nod.

Prediction: Portstewart Olympic.

Roe Rovers v Liverpool Supporters Club

Possibly the tie of the round, Rovers are on an excellent run of form and they are scoring plenty of goals with a number of players on the score sheet, they are also solid at the back. The visitors are previous winners and are determined to go all the way again, they to are scoring plenty of goals which should see lots of action at both ends.

Prediction: Roe Rovers.

City Cup

BBOB v Ballykelly

The Old Boys suffered a shock exit in the Junior Cup against a side from a lower Division and they will not want a repeat, they are still in pole position in the Premier League but they are well capable of going all the way in this competition.

The visitors are in Second place in Division Two and although not likely to catch leaders Ardmore they could still get promotion, they won’t mind this distraction but may find the home side to strong.

Prediction: BBOB.

Premier Division

Drummond v Burndennett

This is the only game in the Premiership, the Limavady men were well beaten last time out although they were not at full strength something that must frustrate player manager Chris Moore.

John McDaid’s side are in mid table but they are still in the City Cup where they will entertain Newtowne so he will want his players to perform in the league, if the home side are not at full strength his side may collect the points.

Prediction: Burndennett.
