Dergview 6 Ballymoney United 1

A minute’s silence was observed at Darragh Park as a mark of respect for the tragic death of Christopher Hallam son of Ballymoney United stalwarts Ann and Ivor Hallam.

The game started at a frantic pace and the visitors came close in the first attack a great ball in by Wilkinson found McKinley who shot just wide. Ballymoney maintained the pressure and again came close on 15 mins when a cross from McClelland was deflected goalwards by Lecky bringing a great save from Snow in the home goal.

The visitors continued to press and McKinley found himself in one on one with Snow on 20 mins rounded the keeper out wide on the left but could not recover the ball to finish the chance.

Dergview came close on 25 mins when a free kick in a dangerous position from Lafferty was well cleared by Gage to McKinley who crossed for Kearney to chip just over.

The home team attacked catching the visitors defence all over the place and Lafferty punished them by cracking home the opening goal past McCormack in the visitors goal on 26 mins.

Ballymoney seemed to commit defensive suicide because straight from the kick off Dergview got possession and rattled in their second through Walsh on 28 mins, this was followed 2 mins later by a third by Lecky leaving the visiting supporters dumbfounded.

The visitors settled and regained some composure but the damage was done after these 6 minutes of madness. Ballymoney should have scored when a Ried cross found McLernon who headed against the crossbar.

With half time approaching it was Dergview who added to their total scoring through Campbell.

Half Time Dergview 4 Ballymoney United 0

Ballymoney started lively in the second half and came close when a Wilkinson header was well saved by Snow in the home goal.

But it was short-lived as Dergview went further ahead as Mullan carried the ball from the half way line unchallenged cut in and blasted past McCormack in the visitor’s goal.

Ballymoney continued to play football but were making little headway against a very resolute Dergview team however on the hour Ried was chopped down in the box and Nicholl blasted past Snow to give the visitors a consolation goal.

Dergview took their foot of the pedal and were cruising to victory when Arkinson took on the Ballymoney defence and rattled home their sixth goal as the final whistle beckoned.
