Derriaghy must wait for dream draw

DERRIAGHY Cricket Club FC missed out on a lucrative Irish Cup draw, but they are hopeful of being in the hat for the next round.

The villagers were drawn at home to the winners of the Dergview/Knockbreda tie, but will have to play the match away from home.

“We were the last pair out of the hat so we knew we had missed a big draw like Linfield or Glentoran,” said club spokesman David Skelton.

“However, we look forward to the fifth round whoever it is and will do our best to spring an upset and maybe get the big draw next time round.”

Dunmurry Rec, who earned a replay with Linfield last year, are away to Newbuildings.

Holders Linfield begin the defence of the trophy to Ballyclare Comrades who they know very well having survived a scare at Dixon Park earlier this season when they came from behind to win in extra-time.

Lisburn Distillery have a tough but even chance of getting through when they take on Ballymena United at home.

Irish Cup fifth-round draw: Glenavon v Portadown; Linfield v Ballyclare Comrades; Crusaders v Warrenpoint Town; Coleraine v Larne Tech Old Boys or Rathfriland ; Cliftonville v Ards; Lisburn Distillery v Ballymena United; Dungannon Swifts v Larne; Dundela v Ballinamallard; Bangor v Ballymoney Utd; Institute v Donegal Celtic; Newington YC v Glentoran; Coagh Utd v Loughgall; Banbridge Town v Sport & Leisure or Newry City; Killymoon Rangers v Carrick Rangers; Newbuildings v Dunmurry Rec; Derriaghy CC v Knockbreda or Dergview.

Lisburn Distillery face a crunch two games over the festive period, first they meet fellow strugglers Carrick Rangers at home on Saturday and after a trip to Linfield on Tuesday night they are away to Donegal Celtic on Boxing Day.

Boss John Cunningham will be looking for six points from those games in a bid to pull away from the bottom of the table.

Linfield should see off Glenavon at home on Saturday, then come the Whites on Tuesday night before the Boxing Day Big Two battle at The Oval.
