Derry add Rafter to squad

DERRY City have added a third new face to their squad with the addition of former Dundalk striker Michael Rafter.

The talented front man, who has signed a one year deal with City, believes challenging for the league title next season is high in his agenda.

“I’m delighted to have signed for such a big club as Derry City,” he admitted. “They are steeped in history and I just think we are signing good players and we are looking to expand on what they did last year.

“They had a good season and ended it by winning the FAI Cup and I think they can push for the league this year. They were a match for any team last year.”

“I definitely think we can push on this year. I feel we are going to be very strong if we can keep everybody fit and as I have said, competition for places is going to be brilliant.”

Another ex-Dundalk man who is likely to be joining Rafter at the Brandywell next season is fellow centre-forward Mark Griffin.

It’s thought the player has agreed to join the Candy Stripes but a compensation deal with the Lilywhites’ still has to get sorted out before Griffin can sign on the dotted line.
