Despite going a goal down to Sam Oji’s first half header, a positional change by boss Peter Hutton at half-time ensured the Candystripes claimed the points.

Barry McNamee moved in from the right wing to a more central position with Sean Houston moving out to the right flank, while Patrick McEleney started to get more influential deep in Galway’s half.

It was that man McEleney who played his part in both goals; firstly his left wing centre found Houston at the back post and he superbly slotted the ball home past United goalkeeper Conor Gleeson.

Then on 81 minutes the talented midfielder saw his left footed cross find Ryan Curran, who bundled the ball home from close range.

After the game Curran spoke to Sentinel Sport’s Editor Kevin McLaughlin.
