DERRY CITY: Dooley apologises after defeat

Winger Stephen Dooley admitted Derry City’s 4-2 defeat at Longford Town wasn’t good enough and he apologised to the travelling supporters.

The 24-year-old, who like a number of Derry players is now out of contract, is waiting to see where his future lies.

Town’s win meant they secured sixth spot and in truth they could have won by a bigger margin.

The home side took the lead right on the stroke of half-time thanks to David O’Sullivan’s penalty, after Rob Cornwall handled the ball inside the box.

The final game of the season was over as contest just after the hour mark, as Tony Cousins’ side scored three times in the space of 12 minutes thanks to goals from Mark Rossiter, Gary Shaw and Pat Sullivan’s penalty.

Derry did manage to pull two goals back through substitute Ronan Curtis and Cornwall, but it was a case of too little too late.

After the game at the City Calling Stadium, Dooley spoke to Kevin McLaughlin.
