Derry City: Glentoran Stand being demolished

Last Friday Stormont approved a £1.5 million funding tranche for the Brandywell Stadium.

The money, from the Social Investment Fund, was signed off last Thursday evening.

It’s seen as the final part of the jigsaw in the funding required to redevelop the ground.

A further £1.2 million for Leafair Park and £600,000 for Pearse’s GAC from the fund has also been given the green light.

Derry City Council made a successful bid to the Social Investment Fund in 2013 but it is only now that the funds have been given the go ahead.

The local authority has already pledged £4.5m of the £6.2 million required.
