Derry City: McNamee agrees new deal

The midfielder, who attracted the attention of St Patrick’s Athletic, Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers, will sign on the dotted line tomorrow morning.

The 22-year-old’s deal sees him remaining at the Brandywell until the end of the 2016 campaign.

McNamee, who only recently returned from an unsuccessful trial with English League One side Fleetwood Town after he picked up a ankle injury, is happy now everything is sorted.

“The trial in England didn’t go according to plan after picking up the injury, so the last three or four weeks have been a long few weeks trying to make my decision,” he stated.

“I changed my mind numerous times, maybe three or four times a day over the last few weeks, so I’m happy to have finally got it done, so that I can rest up now over Christmas and get back at it in the New Year.”

The Ramelton man, who joins Aaron Barry, Mark Timlin, Nathan Boyle and Josh Daniels in resigning with the Candystripes, believes it’s exciting times ahead for Peter Hutton’s side.

“We were beaten in the cup final and if you ask any of our players they would tell you that we didn’t perform on the day but we still feel we are capable of competing against the top teams,” he added.

“Yes, we still need a couple more bodies into the squad, but obviously it’s Peter’s first full year in charge so we’ll get a good pre-season done and he’ll put his marker down to the way he wants us to play, so then it’s up to the players to perform for him.”
