Derry City release striker Elding

The frontman, who scored two goals since his arrival at the start of the season, hasn’t featured much for the Candystripes in recent weeks.

Elding arrived at the Brandywell after joining from Ballinamallard United at the beginning of the season.

Boss Peter Hutton admitted the ex-Sligo Rovers man left the club by mutual consent.

“To be fair to Anthony, he’s been a fantastic professional, but we’ve been thinking about it the past few weeks now and I think we’re going a different direction now and I think as well we need to bring though some of our youth as well,” Hutton staged.

“We’d like to thank him for his time here and his service to the club and wish him all the best for his future wherever it may lie.

“I don’t think it worked out for him here, but it was no fault of Anthony’s, he was a consummate professional and worked extremely hard when he was here. Very good with the young players too and they’ll benefit from that as well, but as I say, we’re just going to go a different direction.

“In an ideal world hopefully we’ll be able to bring some players in, but that’s an ongoing thing now so we’ll have to see how things go before the window opens.”
