Derry sunk by Gaffney’s late strike
A lack lustre display by Derry City was summed up by Mark Timlin’s poor clearance which result in striker Rory Gaffney firing home a late winner for Limerick.
As expected the Brandywell men made a host of changes and they fell a goal behind early in the second half when Shane Duggan fired home after he was initally denied by Derry goalkeeper Ciaran Gallagher.
The home side levelled things just after the hour mark thanks to Barry McNamee’s close range header, but a miss hit clearance by Timlin in the closing minutes, resulted in Gaffney firing home the winner for Martin Russell’s side.
