(Desertmartin won 4-3 on penalties)

DESERTMARTIN made the short journey to their local rivals Magherafelt Sky Blues in search for a victory that would take them through to round two of the Crawford Cup.

After a hard fought encounter with little to choose between the two teams, it was the Desert who emerged winners but it took a penalty shoot-out as the scoreline was stalemate after extra time.

The game was by no means a classic but derby’s are rarely spectactular events with both team struggling to gain control in the mid-field therefore leaving the game to be dominated by good defending by both teams. However Sky Blues had the best chance of the game in the 2nd half but Davy Nelson made a great save on a on a one to one.

Team: Lee Smyth, Robin Patton, Davy Junkin and Daniel McIhatton were the marksmen for the Desert silencing the Blues supporters on the East bank

GOALS by Mark Speers and Clarke Lennox on each side of half-time were not enough to give Desertmartin Swifts victory over Larne Olympic as they went down by 3 goals to 2 at Dromore Park last Saturday.

Quite a contrast from previous weeks as the Swifts enjoyed a good run of success.

Manager Trevor Junkin was not a happy man as he felt his players under performed.

They will have to up their game as they will the going hard against Magherafelt Sky Blues Reserves at Spires Park this Saturday kick off 2pm.
