Determined Tobermore boys lose in cup final

TOBERMORE Youth Football Academy u15s recently travelled to Mill Meadow Castledawson for the NWCDYL cup final against Coleraine Community/Academy u15s

The game started with both teams being very careful with a lot of the early exchanges in the middle of the park. As the first half progressed Tobermore pressed forward looking for an opening, but a combination of bad luck, good goal keeping and last gasp tackles keep the scores level

At the other end the defence of Watterson, Glasgow, Duffin and Crawford were keeping Coleraine at bay quite comfortably and anything that crept in behind Scott in goals was tidying up with ease.

The first half drew to a close with the score still 0-0 but Tobermore feeling they were slightly on top

The second half started in similar fashion with Tobermore knowing if they kept playing as they had in the first half the chances would come. The midfield McKinless, Letters, Quinn and Donnelly were working extremely hard and not giving Coleraine time or space to play their football.

With 15mins gone in the second half Tobermore,s first chance came. With Scott and Hamilton causing panic in the Coleraine defence with their runs and movement, Donnelly broke from midfield and with the keeper advancing lobbed a beautiful ball over his outstretched arms and towards goal .Somehow a Coleraine defender managed to wrap his foot around the ball and volley clear.

Five minutes later the game turned completely when Coleraine made a break up their right side and with the help of a hand ball which the referee failed to notice took the lead with an unstoppable shot which left Scott in goal with no chance.

Half-time: 1-0 to Coleraine

Tobermore restarted the game with the same determination they had showed all match and within a few minutes were unlucky not to equalize. Quinn played a delightful ball through the Coleraine back four and left Scott one on one with a fast advancing keeper who dived bravely at Scott’s feet as he was about to shoot.

The ball broke to Hamilton who was following through and as he tried to get the shot away a tackle was made and the ball cleared to safety.

The rest of the second half continued with Tobermore pressing for an equalizer and keeping Coleraine pinned back in their own half for long periods.

As time started to run out and Tobermore committing more men forward Coleraine grabbed a second goal. With a good break down their right and the ball squared to an unmarked man on the penalty spot, who struck a firm shot into the bottom corner of the net giving Scott in goal no chance.
