Devlin to the fore as Olympic have victory on road

Tobermore United 1

Cookstown Olympic 2

Cookstown Olympic made the short journey last Saturday to play Tobermore United Reserves in the league and came away with a good 2-1 victory.

It was a fairly even start to the match until Tobermore were awarded a penalty after 10 minutes which Olympic’s keeper Jamie O’Neill was unable to keep out.

Olympic steadied themselves and got more into the match and drew level after 22 minutes when Ryan Devlin flicked the ball over the Tobermore defence for Niall McKenna to run through and take it round the keeper and fire to the back of the net.

Tobermore then had a good spell that saw Jamie O’Neill pull off a great block after 30 minutes which then fell to a Tobermore player but Mark Meenan was alert enough to get back and clear the ball off the line.

A foot injury to the Olympic keeper then saw him substituted at half time with Stephen Conway replacing him.

Olympic pressed hard in the second half and after 47 minutes Ryan Devlin made it to the by-line and pulled the ball back for Connor O’Reilly but his snap shot was just wide. The Olympic pressure continued and Ryan Devlin hassled the defender who passed it back to the keeper and then Devlin blocked the attempted clearance back into the net.

Tobermore made some substitutions and changed the game back on to Olympic who in turn were glad to see keeper Stephen Conway make a full length save after 60 minutes while the post and cross bar were rattled by Tobermore.

Olympic then also brought on fresh legs up front after 75 minutes and played into the Tobermore corners and ran down the clock to claim the three points.
