Diamond extensions deal with City

Progressive local firm, Diamond Corrugated, has opted to extend its main sponsorship of the Brandywell club for another two years.

Based in Derry’s Pennyburn Industrial Estate, Diamond Corrugated’s association with the “Candy Stripes” stretches back to the club’s return to senior football in 1985.

However, the local packaging firm’s highly respected Managing Director, Mr Paul Diamond - a life-long City fan - has not only served on the Board of Directors as club chairman when securing the league title back in 1997, but it was his approach to the FAI, in the company of current chairman, Mr Philip O’Doherty, which signalled the renaissance of the club several years ago.

Mr Diamond stated “We are very pleased to confirm this two year extension of our main sponsorship of Derry City FC which takes us to the end of the 2016 season.

“The club is an integral part of the sporting life of the North West and we are delighted to continue with our strong association with the candy stripes.

“Under the leadership of Philip O’Doherty as Chairman we have every confidence in Derry City’s future as a significant force in Irish football.”

Having opted to take over Derry City’s leading sponsor’s role three years ago and to have agreed to extend and actually increase that deal until the end of the 2016 season, is viewed by all associated with Derry City as a major statement of intent by the company. Club Chairman, Mr Philip O’Doherty stated “I am absolutely delighted at Paul’s decision for Diamond Corrugated to extend their generous main sponsorship agreement with Derry City FC.

“This vote of confidence in our football club will greatly encourage the Board, Management Team, Players and supporters as we begin our new season.

“I wish Paul and Diamond Corrugated continued success in their business and thank them for their continued support.”

The five figure sponsorship deal agreed by Diamond Corrugated is, therefore, viewed as a major endorsement of Derry City’s continued success both on and off the field of play.

With the firm’s roots firmly embedded in the local community, Derry City FC believes that the confidence and professionalism exhibited by Diamond Corrugated, thanks to this excellent sponsorship extension, will be widely acknowledged in the community which continues to loyally support the Brandywell club.
