Disappointing finish to campaign for Town

With the possibility of a fourth place finish for the home team they were looking for a win while Banbridge were hoping to put a shine on an otherwise awful campaign.

The Welders were on the attack right from the start and looked intent on ending their home games with a win.

Skipper Paul Harbinson, making probably his last appearance at Tillysburn Park before his retirement, should have opened the scoring when clean through, only to sky the ball over the bar.

Banbridge were relying heavily on the offside trap and the home team kept falling into it. It took thirty minutes for the first goal to come and that was by Carl Rezai who nodded Dan McMurray’s super cross into the net.

Ryan Harvey got his name on the scoresheet ten minutes later when he slotted the ball home from 12 yards to beat Buchanan in the Banbridge goal.

It was all Welders now and goal number three followed shortly after when Harvey netted his second of the game finishing off a William Armstrong pass.

The second half was a real end of season affair with very little in the way of chances being created by the visitors and the Welders happy to sit on their lead.

McGuinness and Harvey lifted the gloom with a couple of efforts and in reply David Hawthorne for Banbridge had a decent effort well saved by Dougherty.

With time running out Harvey had a great chance for his hat trick but he put it over the bar when he had time to steady himself prior to shooting.

- On Tuesday night Paul Evans and Damian McParland’s caretaker spell in charge of the Town ended in a 2-1 defeat.
