Disappointing loss for Seconds

Dromore Amateurs Seconds 2

Portaferry Rovers Seconds 3

DROMORE Amateurs Seconds endured a disappointing 3-2 defeat at the hands of a youthful Portaferry Rovers team at Ferris Park on Saturday.

The home side were buzzing with confidence at the start of this match and dominated possession and territory in the early stages.

But, in a sign of things to come, it was Portaferry who opened the scoring on the counter-attack in the 20th minute.

The sides were level 10 minutes later – Dean Brownlee’s in-swinging corner fell to Ned Walsh and he swept the ball confidently into the net.

Walsh grabbed an excellent second goal – his seventh in two games – on the hour mark. He put the Portaferry defence under pressure and when the ball bounced free, the Amateurs hitman lashed a fine strike into roof of the net from 20 yards.

Dromore really should have gone on to win this match – but instead it was Portaferry who raised their performance level and two late goals left the home side cursing themselves for an under-par second half display.
