Disappointing loss for Town’s U15s

BANBRIDGE Town Juniors Under-15s slumped to a disappointing defeat in their season opener in the Lisburn League.

The local lads were three goals down after only a quarter of an hour of Saturday’s trip to Bloomfield and, despite a brief rally in the second half, they never really threatened or deserved to get anything from the game.

The performance was simply not up to the standard required and a major improvement is quickly needed if the locals are to make any impression in their division.

Bloomfield pulled the locals apart in the early exchanges and were ahead on five minutes after an inch-perfect cross from the right was clinically headed home.

The home No.9 was causing the Juniors all sorts of problems and it was soon 2-0 when he curled a superb shot beyond Stuart Wilson’s reach into his top left corner.

Things went from bad to worse when number three arrived from the penalty spot after 15 minutes.

Kyle Thompson and Chris Burns had chances to reduce the deficit before half-time but threats on the home goal were few and far between.

Ten minutes after the break Joel Copes applied the finishing touch following a corner to make it 3-1.

The game was more of a contest in the second half but any chance of a comeback was ended ten minutes from time when Bloomfield found it all too easy to break through the centre of the Juniors’ defence to restore their three-goal margin.

In the end the locals’ performance got what it deserved with the attitude and lack of hunger on the opening day of the season the greatest disappointment.
