Disappointment for Senior Park

BALLYMENA Senior Park continued their league campaign last Saturday when they travelled to third placed Cliftonville in the NIPGL Senior Division 2.

It was a tough day for the Ballymena men as the home team claimed a comfortable 92-75 victory.

Keith Burnett, Robert McCready, Neal Garrett and John Elliott on rink 1 played R Gray.

After 10 ends there was only one shot in the game but a count of 4 shots in the next end saw Elliott's rink take the initiative to go 10-7 in front.

Four ends later the scores were tied at 12 apiece but after 17 ends, Ballymena were back in front at 16-12. The Cliftonville rink, however, produced a late burst and scored 2, 2, 4, and 5 to win 25- 16.

On rink 2 Artie McAuley, Nigel McFadden, George Beattie and Alex Wilson played J McGinn. Over the opening 8 ends, the game was low scoring but a count of 7 for Cliftonville in the 9th end saw McGinn's foursome race into a 12-6 lead.

Wilson's rink won seven of the next ends but this dominance did not reflect in the score as the home side were victorious by 22 shots to 13.

The only point of the day for Ballymena Park was on rink 3 where Davy Cupples, Wilfie Stewart, John Murdock and Arnold Kenny played P Neeson.

It took until the 10th end for the Ballymena rink to take the lead at 8-7. Kenny's men won 4 out of the next 5 ends to establish a 15-9 lead.

The 17th end saw Clifftonville regain their early advantage to go 20 16 in front. Ballymena won their point with counts of 4 and 3 to win 23-20.

It was a low scoring game on rink 4 with John McAnally, Gary Shaw, Tommy Hill and John Millar playing P Gillespie.

This game was dominated by low scoring with only 6 out of the 21 ends registering more than a count of 1.

The Braidmen led throughout the game although the lead was only slim. At the midpoint of the game Millars rink were 4 shots up with the score at 9-5.

They continued to lead up until the final end with the Ballymena boys being one shot up but a loss of 3 shots meant a 15-13 defeat for Millar's rink.
