Distillery bounce back

Lisburn Distillery bounced back quickly from Saturday’s defeat to basement side Coagh United.

They saw off high-flying Knockbreda on Tuesday 3-1, also at New Grosvenor.

Breda could have gone top of the table if they had won their games in hand and so the Whites’ win came much to manager Tommy Kincaid’s delight.

“It wasn’t as if it was a smash and grab win,” he said.

“We had more opportunities to win the game more convincingly. We even had a goal, an overhead-kick, ruled out for offside.

“Their staff and players were all very gracious after the game and conceded that it was a win that we deserved.”

“Knockbreda are right up there. If they had won their two games in hand, they would have gone top of the league. We’ve been doing well lately so to get another win in the manner we did against them was very pleasing.

“The lads all played well, from the goalkeeper right through the side. They were hungry for the win and deserved it because they gave it their all.

“We scored a couple of good goals in it as well.”

Having finally ended their six game losing streak and won two on the trot, Saturday’s was a shock defeat.

They had been 1-0 up thanks to Stephen Doyle’s fourth goal since arriving in January. Their second half collapse, however, was put firmly behind them on Tuesday evening.

It was largely thanks to a very strong display from Luke Wilson, who was involved in all three goals.

First up, his free-kick wide on the right was cleared only as far as Mikey Withers, who dropped his shoulder and fired a superb effort into the bottom corner from 25 yards out.

Wilson seized on a mix-up between the Knockbreda goalkeeper and defender, nipping in to set up Stepehn Doyle to tap into the empty net.

And shortly after, Wilson got the goal his efforts deserved as he capped off a good Distillery break by firing home.

An up and down week then, for Distillery. Something manager Kincaid has had to get used to this term.

He said: “That’s the way our season has been going unfortunately. There have been a lot of ups and downs but the boys have picked themselves up lately. We’ve won three of our last four games now so I suppose we can’t be too disappointed, given how things we going before that.”

Distillery have no game this weekend with just three games remaining, twice against Bangor and one at home to Dergview.
