Donaldson and Bonis grab goals to seal silverware for Old Boys

And the Old Boys officials have one eye on the history books beyond that previous trophy triumph as a potential omen for additional good fortune.

Goals by William Donaldson and Lee Bonis - the latter the perfect finale to a season disrupted by long-term injury - wrapped up the Foster Cup prize.

Now, in the aftermath of the celebrations, BBOB focus will turn to the 1986 campaign which produced Foster Cup glory and promotion out of Division Two.

BBOB visit league leaders Rectory Rangers this weekend in search of victory to maintain a title bid.

“It was brilliant to bring a trophy back to the club but it would also be wonderful if it turns out to be an omen, given how it ended 30 years back,” said the Old Boys’ Graeme Lyttle. “So much work has gone on behind the scenes and the cup win was a great reward for someone like Robert Love, given his dedication.

“There is a buzz about the place due to young players like Lee and Daniel Robb, the latter was named ‘man-of-the-match’ in the final on his 17th birthday.

“A lot of players were playing in a first final last week and we looked a bit nervous before a foul on Matthew Donaldson allowed William to break the deadlock.

“David Marsden made a great save and it was an excellent shift by the full group, with Lee’s goal capping the win.”
