Donemana win derby

DONEMANA Reserves took on neighbours Artigarvan on Saturday at Magheramason and came away with a well deserved 5-4 victory.

A mix up in the Donemana defence allowed Artigarvan to to take the lead after 40 minutes only for Lee Gibson to draw level from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time.

Early in the second half Artigarvan again took the lead when a brave save from keeper Craig Peters rebounded kindly for the Artigarvan striker.

Donemana equalised once again through Timmy Dougherty and shortly afterwards went 3-2 up when Gibson grabbed his second. A free header frrom an Artigarvan corner made it 3-3 before Timmy Dougherty scored a superb fourth for the ‘blues’.

The referee then awarded Artigarvan a strongly disputed penalty which lead to 4-4 with only a few minutes remaining.

A long ball upfield allowed Dean Milligan to sprint clear of the Artigarvan defence and calmly chip the advancing keeper to secure a great double over their neighbours this season.

Manager Dessie Golligher said: “This squad consisted of no fewer than six of our under 17 year old youth team and i feel that there is a great future ahead for this young side.”
