“I have just had my operation and it was a success. For the time being I have decided to go home, complete my rehabilitation and play Irish League Football.”

The former NI youth international added, “I have loved my time at Preston and it is a great club and I hope to see them back up where they belong in the next few years.”

Douglas scored a dramatic equaliser in a local derby against Carlisle on Boxing Day and had been looking forward to pushing on from there. However, Douglas picked up another injury that required surgery and he will be in cast for six weeks.

His intention to return home is bound to spark plenty of interest from local Irish League sides, who will be keen to add some fire-power to their front line for the 2012/2013 season.
