Dromore U15s (1)

VS Draperstown Celtic U15 (4)

DRAPERSTOWN Celtic travelled to Lurgan to play Dromore and came away with three points following a comprehensive 4 – 1 victory. The DC team were more like the team of last season completely dominating their opponents.

Due to injuries, illness, etc it was a new look Celtic but every player who came in did the club proud and put in a great effort

The game started and DC took the game straight to the home team putting them under pressure with their attacking football. The football played by DC was more like the style of football with which DC attracted many admirers last year.

In reality the first half was all DC, with them taking a 4- 0 lead into the break. The scoring was opened within the first 5 minutes by Mark Doole, who hit a great shot into the corner giving the keeper no chance. The second goal arrived a few minutes later when great set up play from the returning Conor Glass gave Flanagan a chance and his sublime chip was a joy to see.

At this stage the Celts were totally dominant and another goal arrived in the 20th minute when the excellent Conor Glass rose high above the defence to power home a great header. By now the impressive Glass was leading the line well giving a great display of forward play – he held up the ball, made great runs and his link up play with his team mates was excellent.

The 4th DC goal arrived a minute before half time when a great bit of solo work by Glass was finished by a delicate shot past the keeper – the Dromore defender tried to clear but only succeeded in putting the ball into his own net. The half time whistle arrived to give a shell shocked Dromore a bit of a breather

In the second half Dromore resorted to a very physical style of play with some tackles bordering on dangerous. The young Celts did themselves proud, kept their discipline and did not retaliate. Dromore did score a lucky goal at the beginning of the second half when a speculative shot from their midfielder hit a divot and bounce over the very impressive stand in keeper Pearse Grant. but it did spoil the fluency of the attacking play from DC.

This gave the home team some hope and they tried to come back into into the game but the new look DC defence of O’Kane, McCloskey, McElhone and Mullin stood firm – all the while being superbly organised by McCloskey.

The Dromore tackles got more extreme as the frustration of being dominated by the DC midfield took its toll. In reality the referee should have intervened and sent off a few Dromore players but all credit to the DC team for keeping their cool.

A great win for DC and if they can take that form and energy through to the end of the season and to the Foyle Cup who knows what can happen.
