Dromore stop the Saints

DROMORE U11s had never played St Marys before and had no idea about the team or how they played.

There were a few early nerves as Dromore pushed forward and they where caught out defensively and found themselves one goal down after 10 minutes.

Soon after this Dromore began to gain control of the midfield with some good passes from Philip and Euan.

Adam was causing a lot of problems for St Mary’s down the right, going passed two or three players and getting great crosses into the box. On one such occasion one of the St Mary’s players handled the ball. Euan took a fantastic penalty into the bottom left with the keeper well beaten.

As the half went on the U11 defence grew stronger, with Morgan playing on the left, Nathan in the centre and Joel who did a great job marking St Marys star player.

Matthew Magill was playing up front and was working hard, but their defence was strong.

The second goal came from a long throw by Nathan, the ball broke to Adam who fired a fierce shot into the bottom left, for his fourth goal in two matches.

The Dromore coach John McGuinness made a few changes at half time using all the subs, Rileigh Jamison went up front, Ben Ingram played in midfield and Alan Aiken slotted into left back.

Within five minutes of the restart Dromore scored the best goal of the game. St Marys’ goalkeeper had come for a cross but missed it and tried to follow the ball out of the area to clear it, but Matthew Briggs got to the ball before him and with a delightful chip found the net.

St Mary’s pressed forward and got a corner from which one of the St Mary’s defenders scored with a great flick.

St Mary’s pressed forward for another goal but they could not get passed Josh in goal, who had an impressive game. The coaches would like to thank the parents for their support and for their help in taking down the goals at the end of the match.
