Dromore U14s play well but are beaten by league leaders

Dromore U14s put on a really good show for the large crowd last Saturday at Ferris Park against the League leaders Mallusk and were unfortunate to come away with a defeat.

From the off, it was the home side that showed real intent and purpose with the midfield quartet of Ben Hanna, Jamie Gregg, Ryan Woods and Ryan Gallagher closing down the Mallusk players and giving them no time on the ball. This fast start from Dromore had Mallusk rattled, with early chances for Oliver McLuckie and Odhran Crozier.

It was no shock to see the U14s take the lead when Jamie Gregg got himself clear down the right and the Mallusk keeper palmed out his cross, which fell to Oliver McLuckie at the edge of the box. He chipped the ball over the keeper’s head and into the goal.

Mallusk got their equaliser towards the end of the half when the Mallusk forward reacted quicker to a corner to tap the ball in from close range.

Mallusk were to take the lead when their forward won a race against the Dromore defender from the half way line to slot the ball past Miguel Ferreria. Football is a cruel game and Mallusk scored a third late on from another corner kick that wasn’t dealt with by the U14s.

Dromore U14s can take heart from a really good team performance against Mallusk.

On the day, there was good performances from all of the Dromore players and it was impossible to pick any out for the MOTM award. Hopefully this level of performance will be repeated next week away to Bangor FC at Ormeau Park at 10am.
