Drumahoe lose

Drumahoe...1

Redstar...2

Drumahoe switched the visit of title contenders Redstar to Lisneal College as the YMCA pitch was unplayable, however the change of venue brought no luck for the Waterside out-fit.

The Lisneal surface was excellent but the match was ruined by the blustery conditions and Redstar got off to flier with only four minutes gone when Sweeney saw his fine 25 yard strike nestle in corner of the net after a fair bit of wind assistance.

Drumahoe were not coping with the conditions and with Redstar a goal up the visitors just sat back and threw long balls to exploit their pace up front.

Terry Martin’s side failed to muster anything in the first half as their passing was letting them down, but came out in determined fashion for the second half and tried to combat the awful conditions.

However it was Redstar who struck next doubling their lead on the hour mark when Paul Ryan burst through and finished well as Drumahoe were caught light at the back.

The home side started to create with King hammering a shot which just sailed over, before Doherty saw a volley just go wide, then on 75 minutes Devine hammered a free-kick high into the roof of the Redstar net to pull a goal back and make an exciting finale.

Drumahoe exerted pressure to the end with the impressive Devine having another long range effort well held by the keeper.

There was a few close shaves as Redstar held on to the slender victory and keep themselves well in contention for the Championship title.

Drumahoe travel to Lettershandoney next Saturday to take on Tamnaherin Celtic and after losing Miller and McDermott during the Redstar match through injury, will be hoping that they can put out a strong squad.
