Dublin despair for Senior Park outfit

BALLYMENA Senior Park were also in Irish Cup action on Saturday when they made the long trip to face CYM in Dublin.

Unfortunately the Dubliners were just too strong for the Ballymena men and they returned home well beaten.

The visitors' best performance of the day came on rink 1 where Artie McAuley, Robert Mark, Derek Greer and Arnold Kenny were drawn against P Moorehead. There was never much in this game with CYM taking a 4 shot lead after 6 ends, however even though the Ballymena men won 11 of the 21 ends, they could not get their noses in front, eventually losing by 18 shots to 14.

The game on rink 2 started well for the Ballymena rink of Keith Burnett, Neal Garrett, Robert McCready and George Beattie and after 8 ends the Braid men lead 12-5 against D McCarthy.

Unfortunately for the visitors the CYM rink scored successive counts of 5 shots to get right back in to the game and they continued to score heavily over the remainder of the game to record a 33-21 victory.

On rink 3 the scores were level at 6-6 after 7 ends between I Wilson and the Ballymena rink of John McAnally, Roy Hutchinson, Sammy Watson and Davy Balmer.

The Ballymena men were still very much in touch after 15 ends with the score 16-12 in favour of the home rink and unfortunately the visitors were unable to score again as CYM went on to score a slightly flattering 31-12 victory.

Andy Hill, N McFadden, Gary Shaw and Tommy Hill didn’t make the best of starts on rink 4 against F McCarthy and in reality this game as a contest was over after 9 ends with the CYM rink holding a 21-4 lead.

The Ballymena men could quite easily have capitulated, however to their credit they did not give up and gave as good as they got over the remaining ends, but they could not stop coming out on the wrong end of a 31-12 defeat.

It is back to the NIPGL Senior Division 2 league when they travel to Malone and then on Thursday night it is the first round of the NIPGL Senior Cup when Ewarts is the destination.
