Dunbarton have to wait extra week for season to start

Dunbarton’s A&B teams’ games against Old Bleach were called off at the weekend due to the death of Bryan McGrath, President of the Old Bleach club and a well known bowler.

This Saturday, the Senior team host newly promoted Ards and will be hoping for a maximum point victory in Gilford.

Meanwhile, the Dunbarton junior team, competing in the newly formed Division 4, will travel to Falls B.

The individual Private Greens Competitions start this week with two rounds of singles and two rounds of pairs taking place.

Reigning champions Conor McCartan and DJ Wilson have been handed a very tough opening assignment as they travel to 2013 champions Steven Shields and Jim Baker in Ballymena. Other pairs hoping to emulate their clubmates include A team partnerships such as Convery/Trainor, Bell/Hughes, McElroy/Mulholland, Trainor/Merritt.

In the singles, Dunbarton have 10 entries, although one of them is guaranteed to be knocked out as teammates Jack Moffatt and DJ Wilson have been drawn together in the first round.

Other Gilford bowlers hoping for success include James Kelly, Pete Convery, Martin Trainor, Michael Merritt, Tony Bell, Jonny Gray, Myles Greenfield and Chris Trainor.
